Cantrell and Crowley Architects are pleased to announce that planning permission has been secured for a development of 28 new houses in the townland of Ardbear, Clifden, Co. Galway. Located within a comfortable 5min walk of Clifden town, this design-led development consists of a mix of 2, 3 and 4-bedroom houses proposed on a 3.75-hectare greenfield site. Through careful consideration of the site’s context, environment, landscape, topography and access, the proposal is designed to be sympathetic to the character of the area and aims to create a ‘sense of place’, allowing the homeowners to reside in what is a beautiful site with a wonderous outlook onto Clifden Bay.
The proposal features a number of open landscaped areas designed in between the clusters of houses to act as green breaks in the journey through the site, creating interest and framing the views beyond. The design concept of the County Galway ‘gable’ form is found in each of the dwellings in the development, reinterpreted in a contemporary and modern way. The houses also share a simple material palette consisting of natural slate, off-white render and pressed metal, carefully selected to compliment the traditional vernacular architecture of the County Galway countryside.
Cantrell & Crowley are looking forward to construction starting on site in the near future.
